I heart S

  • Aug. 17th, 2008 at 11:49 PM

Okay so I was assigned the letter S by [info]anne_stringer when I commented on her list. So now I have to make a list of ten things I like that start with S. I like S as a letter so this should be fun!

1-Suzi. My partner and the love of my life. Best S thing ever!

2-Science Fiction. I don't know what I do without good SciFi to enjoy!

3-Shakespeare. I love old Will! Shakespeare will always have a special place in my heart. I can't wait to go to Stratford this November to see Hamlet!

4-Scott Sigler. A true master with a pen. Without Scott I would never have gotten into podcasts and the last 3 years would have been much less enjoyable!

5- Sex. Gotta love Sex!

6-Sweet Tea. Because Tea doesn't start with an S.

7-Stracciatella. My favorite type of ice cream!

8-Snorg Tees. Such as  this one and this one

9-Sing-Along-Blog. Dr. Horrible was truly awesome and much deeper and more complex than it may first have appeared. The English Lit student in me is itching to write a paper on this classic.

10-Stringers, The. They are lovely amazing people. I'm so glad I got to chat to them.

Now, leave me a comment and I'll give you a letter, and you can play too.

Tom Smith Fund Raiser

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 8:57 PM

So, Tom Smith hurt himself badly getting up on to a stage last month. As a result of the injury he needed surgery and probably won’t be able to walk until autumn. He doesn’t have insurance to cover it…

For more details on what happened you can check out this livejournal entry

Anyway to help combat the cost of this, a fund raiser has been started. If you donate you can help Tom with the (I imagine) considerable costs. People who donate also get to download a huge collection of covers of Tom’s songs. This is where my spare cash is going this month.

Check out this fantastic gaming song : http://www.thefump.com/fump.php?id=1071

Dr. Horrible Act II

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 1:34 PM

The second act of Dr. Horrible is up and the awesomeness continues!

Dr. Horrible Act II

Y'know , I'd like to see Captain Hammer go up against someone tougher than Dr. Horrible.
He's got it too easy and needs to be taken down a notch or two. I think Matt Fuckin Wallace would
do a good job of kicking his butt!

Total Awesome!

Everybody must watch this (the whole way through, trust me), it's fantastic!

Waking up...

  • Jul. 5th, 2008 at 6:57 PM

It's funny. Despite doing it for over 24 years, waking up alone just doesn't feel normal anymore. When my better half is away the bed feels wrong and waking up alone is a most uncomfortable experience.

It's been a long time

  • Jun. 27th, 2008 at 10:12 AM

It really has been ages since I last posted.
I haven't been terribly busy so I putting it down to simple laziness :)

The podcast is coming along very well indeed, I've had some excellent guests so far including heavyweights like J.C. Hutchins and Matt Wallace and the superhero duo that is Rick and Anne Stringer (lovely people). I'm really enjoying talking to all these people and getting the chance to thank them for filling my days with such high quality entertainment.

On the work end of things, everything is fine. I'm not in a very interesting job at the moment but the pay is enough to keep me going. I'm still waiting to hear back from the local university. It's been a bit of a mess really getting references back from my previous employer because they don't like to give out references and for anything more than a 'Yes, he worked for us' I needed to send them written authorisation! Apparently the references were put in the post last week so the uni should have them by now but I still haven't heard anything. I'm tempted to email the HR department again but I've pestered them enough over the last week just orgainsing the references. I think it's best to wait a few days at least before I get in touch again. The waiting is driving me mad. At this point I'd just like to hear back, one way or another.

In other sad news, my 12" Mac Powerbook is dying... One of the fans has started to fail and from what I can see online this can be expensive and difficult to fix. Its especially hard in Ireland as we just don't have apple stores and official repair centres. I got Isaac about 4 years ago and it has served me well all this time. I'm going to try using it less so as to increase it's lifespan. I'm also going to backup all the data to an external drive just in case. Maybe by the end of the year I'll pick up a shiny black Macbook as a replacement  but with college fees (assuming i get into my masters) money will be a little tighter this year.

Despite the job  hassle and the powerbook trouble, everything else is fine and dandy. I'm living with the love of my life and if I had nothing else then I'd still be deliriously happy :)

Your Score: True Munchkin

You scored 66% Munchkiness

Ah, you're quite munchkin, I see. You're willing to play hard to win and you provide a worthy opponent.
That said, you remember that it's just a game and play accordingly. Good for you.

Apr. 28th, 2008

  • 10:07 PM

So... I'm beginning to think that it's just to dangerous too leave my apartment.

Having recovered from the suprise car door attack of April 14th, the street outside my home has once more become an assault course!

I'm walking along, I cross the road and begin to wander along on the other side. I've fallen into step behind a suited man talking on a mobile phone. All of a sudden there is a metal spike a couple of inches from my eye. The man in front of me was carrying an umbrella and as he walked he was swooshing it back and forth. I could have reached out and grabbed it half way along the umbrella's length, thats how close it was to my face. Resisting the temptation to disarm this lovely gentleman, I fell back a few steps to a safer distance and watched in amazement as this man continued to swoosh his umbrella back and forth and then swing it around. Several on coming pedestrians (such as the woman and dog seen in the video) had to move out of the way quickly in order to keep their eyes!

With this LJ post already in mind I captured this wonderful new style of urban combat on my trusty mobile phone...

I know the quality is terrible but you can see the umbrella being stuck straight forward and straight back, pointing upwards towards face height! Maybe it's just me, but this seems rather dangerous behaviour on a crowded street...

All done!

  • Apr. 14th, 2008 at 1:16 AM

Well thats my essay all done. A good solid 5000 words with lots of pretty pictures thrown in for good measure. Oddly enough, working on the essay was not the most exciting thing that happened today.

Oh no! That honour goes to being crashed into be a car door :)

I'm walking along on the pavement, not in a hurry but moving at a good pace. All of a sudden I find that I've walked into a car door. The passenger of the car had decided to open the car door into the path without having a look to see if anyone was, I dunno, walking on the pavement! It was so fast that the door was there before I had a split second to react even though I was looking where I was going. So my knee, hip and shoulder got a friendly hug from the edge of the door. My left knee got the worst of it, hitting the edge of the metal panel of the outer door straight on. Needless to say the next hour was filled with ice packs, knee wrapping and the thrill of waiting for bruises. Oh goodie.

I'm noticing that I must have banged my elbow too but that little bit of joy has only just made its presence felt in the last few minutes.

Ploughing on through...

  • Apr. 12th, 2008 at 6:40 PM

Last exam of this year is over and all I have left to do is finish my last essay. Hurrah!

Current essay word count aprox 3,500. The max is 5,000 so I may need to go back through and trim things down later...

This wonderful song is helping me get through it:

Priceless :)
